Dropped my oil pan today the oil pump screen looks like a sludge fest. Are you able to clean the screen out? I don't see that the filling station carries a new screen. Also should I pull the whole pump off? How hard is it to get it off and back on.

Yes, you can clean the screen. Disconnect the oil lines and then loosen the screw on the side of the block that releases the oil pump for removal.

Thanks got it out. Screens nice and clean now. It was pretty gross had to use a tooth brush to clean it out.
Should I be worried about cleaning the oil distributor valve? Does that pull out easy. Repair manual says that it requires no attention but I'm not sure about that after all these years and after seeing how the screen was.

Take a look at the distributor valve and make your own decision. Just don't let the spring and ball bearing go ZOOM! Be sure you clean the oil pan very well, especially the troughs. Don't remember where we are in this conversation, but refill with 10-W30 detergent oil.

while you have the oil pump out, place the fill tube in anout 2 inches of oil and connect an elec drill to the pump and see that you get a good flow of oil at a low speed of the drill it should squirt out about 3 inches, if you just get a dribble you need to fix the pump. I did mine last year if you need some direction.
they have a gear pump that will replace the vane type of the original one but its $300+
you can fix the old one for about $5. and a couple hours of tweeking. i have a few old ones if you need some parts. PM me. ron

Thanks Ron that trick worked pretty well. I had very good oil flow thru the pump no need to fix anything here.
