Are there any tech articles on removing the radio?

I see the strap up high in front of the radio (two screws/nuts), but where do the rest of fasteners hide?

Also, it looks like there are two big chrome collars around the radio knobs, and those don't seem to move either.

Aside from what I believe is a cool radio remote control on the steering column, I have no plans to fix it or use it, and it's crowding my view under the dash for doing other work.

Unplug the antenna and the hot wire; should have a fuse holder that comes apart. Otherwise, just disconnect it at the first place you can. Pull the knobs, which may have very small set screws that will need to be loosened, and the chrome collars off the shafts by hand and you will see two thin nuts that screw onto the shafts. Unscrew those leaving them attached just a couple of turns and remove the nuts on the bracket at the back of the radio. Finish taking the thin nuts off and being very careful, push the radio back so the shafts clear the dash holes and lower the radio watching that it is not hung up on any wires, cables, etc. Beamer

Agreed. I had my front seat out when I pulled my radio and rewired my coupe. Don't know how much it weighs, but it isn't light.

Thanks Beamer, I finally got the monster out.

Boy, it's nice to see the mechanicals, heater tubes and all that good stuff up there.

For me, I had to wrap the jaws of my Vise-Grips with a healthy helping of duct tape, and clamp onto those chrome collars and torque them off, cuz man were they frozen on. Big surprise there. And even after removing the 7/16ths nuts, the bracket (as you know) is still bolted to the front of the radio, and bangs into the firewall as it's pushed towards the front of the car. So then I decided to remove the 9/16ths nut holding the whole hanger bracket to the radio housing before I could drop it out.

The radio remote on the steering shaft was also a 20 minute trick...but wow, how cool that our auto-design forefathers were so ingenuitive to actually put a radio control at the fingertips! Heck, I thought that was a modern invention.

I have no plans to use this sound unit in my Fleet, but it's certainly worth keeping around for its cool factor.

For that matter, I have no plans to put any sound in my Fleet.....the grrrrrrr of the 216 is enough music for my ears :-)
