My '48 Fleet with the 216, right now, there's about a 12" spring wired to the muffler pipe and hooked to the accelerator linkage.

Now I KNOW this isn't right.

Can somebody tell me which are the proper points to hook the new spring onto?

As I understand it, there was a clip that attached to an oil pan screw. The opposite end had a small hole for a hooked end of the throttle return spring. It is roughly "L" shaped. The Filling Station and Jim Carter's list these in their respective catalogs.

Ahhhh, interesting. That never would've dawned on me.

Thanks, and also for the Jim Carter tip...I didn't know about his Chevy Trucks business ;o)

Welcome back Mike,
Nice pic of your beautiful work. BTW, are the bellcrank and rods natural or did you paint them with something?

Hi Paul,

I did paint the parts. I don't know if they should have been painted the color of the engine block or not? I also painted the bracket the spring attaches too black. I did it just because I liked the color. I assume it should be painted the engine color. I didn't have your paint list to go by so painted a lot of things colors I liked!!! I also painted my intake and exhaust manifolds gray with POR 15.

I had an enjoyable 2 weeks in Florida. It was 15 below zero when I left Michigan and zero when I got back. The roads in Florida were also in excellant condition compared to those in Michigan!!!

Best wishes, Mike

I would be interested in the return spring clip if available.

Did you try checking out the Filling Station catalog...? Looks simple enough, you could probably make one...
