Well, the voices of experience would seem to set the right path for me, although Rule #2 tells me to pay close attention to Skipper. Can I clarify one part of this? The center part of the radiator grill is solid (i.e. there's no hole to set the bolt into). Perhaps I should describe what's setting in there appears to look like a 1/2" wide solid slug. I take it that whoever took the original emblem had wedged it off with a screwdriver, and this "plug" is left there. Skipper, if I follow what you're saying, should I be able to twist or pry this plug off? Or, would I/should I drill a hole? (I'm kinda squemish about that because I could poke a hole in the radiator (real bad), and at the least I would have to take the radiator out in order to get the nut on. Or, if I listen to the voices of experience, I would simply cut off and grind down the bolt that the emblem is mounted onto, and use heavy duty bonding material (Steel Weld or similar stuff that Antique Mechanic referred to) to hold it in place. Does that make sense, then? Also, while on emblems...I also bought a reproduction factory photo of a '32 coupe, and I noticed what appears to be some sort of oblong circular emblem near the bottom of the cowl on the passenger side. You know, I've had a little mounting hole exposed on that side, and I never knew what went there. I certainly never looked to see it on other Chevs of the same era. What exactly is that little emblem, and is that just as easy to find as the radiator emblem?

Well I would think that the missing cowl emblem is a Fisher Body emblem, and also FYI JYD is a FisherBody Craftsman's Guild nut. So he should be in here on this question like a frog on a junebug! Oh hello Doggie Doodle!

Yep, here is Doggie Doodle! Eddie, on the cowl emblem that you were talking about that is mounted on the lower right, front of the cowl; that is a Fisher Body oval emblem with an off-white background, and it has the Fisher Body Napoleonic coach logo in the center. This 1932 emblem, because of the off-white background, is a one year emblem only. The Filling Station has this Fisher Body emblem in stock. Okay, on your question about the radiator emblem. The orginal emblem had a "plug" (for the lack of a better word) attached to the back, and the plug was a press fit into a mating 1/2" hole on the shell. The reproduction emblem, with the bolt, is made in China, or some such place, and it is flimsy, and the bolt does tend to fall off. Now, you can use "Marine Tex", "Self-Stick" , bubble gum or anything you want to attach this emblem, but I prefer doing it the "right" way. What I would suggest is this: Take the emblem to a person that is an expert at doing silver soldering, and have the bolt on the back of the emblem reinforced with silver solder so that you will know that it is permanent. Then, check the "plug" that is in the radiator shell. If it's the original plug that was attached to the back of the original emblem, and if it is still in place good and tight, then drill a hole through the center of it to mount the reproduction emblem. Be sure to back it up on the inside of the shell with a flat washer that has a larger O. D. than the plug as an extra precaution. Using this method, the plug will not only help to center the emblem and the hole, but it gives an excellent permanent support to the emblem as well. Of course, with this method you have to remove the radiator assembly, but it's the correct way to go if you want to do the job right. Good luck my friend!

Yep - sure is. Glad you're on our side, Skipper. Well, it sounds like if I had bought a used one with no mounting bolt, I would go the "glue on" approach, but since it does have a bolt, I can do it the way Skipper suggests. However, you other guys made fair warning about it falling off, so I think I'll also discretely add a few small dabs of SteelWeld on the inside to further secure it. I have to redo the radiator screen anyway, so I'll add this to my winter to-do projects. Now that Mr. Mack mentions it, I can recall now that you're pretty intimate about the FisherBody Guild stuff, Skipper. So the Filling Station does have that cowl tag, huh? That sounds swell. All right, then, I'll end the thread here...unless y'all want to carry on. (Nice Texas-like touch, huh Mr. Mack?)

I think the gangster look would be pretty cool! I watched Edward G. Robinson in "Little Caesar" last week, and I can get the swagger and language down. With a bullet holed headlight and a gat in my pocket, I'd be the big cheese, ya got that ya mugs? Nah! Yes, well, I'm always inquisitive, and the gang here always know exactly what the story is behind stuff like this, so...ya ask, ya learn. I learn as much by reading responses to other people as I do asking stuff myself, so hopefully the knowledge exponentially increases by more than one. It's what makes being a Chevy owner so much fun.

Just a thought, could Ed remove the orginal "plug" and weld (or use the space age 'glue') the new emblem back onto the plug (remove the bolt)?

instead of "space age glue" - the best stuff for adhering things together is JB Weld. The stuff is awesome and withstands heat up to 350F without letting go. The stuff can even be drilled and tapped after about 24 hours.

I probably could do those things if I had just finished assembling a shiny new radiator and headlight struts altogether. However, it's one more impetus to take it all apart - I have to redo the radiator screen anyway. That could be my rule #3: If it doesn't cost more, do it right and make it right the first time. And...if you want to second guess the Junkyard Dog, well...he might snap at your doggie tail. Ya! ES

Well, I'm getting going on prepping these lights for installation. Where could I find the male-end sockets for the pig tail connections?
