I guess this is just as good a time to broach this subject as any.
If the owner of a 1941 car has a 1942-48 radio in it and is happy-so-be-it. As long as he knows it is not the correct radio. It is true that there are several of the 42-48 radios around, and so are there many of the 1941s around. Four radios are available for 1941. A universal type 985686 (but dated), a Model 985695, 6-tube, a Model 9875694, 8-tube with 3 push buttons, and a Model 985697 9 tube AM and 4 short wave bands. Not a car radio, but a correct radio, 1941 pocket portable radio, Model 985775 was available.
I have had difficulty with the company that makes the push buttons for the Model 985695 for years. I sent an original NOS push button for them to copy. It was immediately lost. Any used buttons have changed color and they wanted to use that sample. I rejected it as it was not correct. Over the years they have continually changed colors with each batch produced. The current button is a light tan color and is totally incorrect. So your comment about that radio is correct and I have not been able to persuade them to make a correct button.
However the Universal 5 tube Chevrolet and the 5-Band radios are readily available with very close match on the color of the push buttons. The 8-tube radio with the 3 push buttons is easy to find, but my source ended up with cancer and no longer makes them and I know of no other source. The Pocket Portable radio is also readily available and I have several in stock.
So to sum up the availability of the 41 radios, the 5 tube with correct PB, the 6 tube with off color buttons, the three button with only a few survivors, the 5-band and the Pocket Portable are all in stock.
