I see some temp gages on ebay, but the tube is cut off. Can they be repaired? By a layman?

Apparently they CAN be repaired by the average (Chevy) person from what I have read on the 'net! Search for temperature gauge repair and you should be able to access the repair info. It sounds pretty involved; however, it's just another aspect of restoring the old girl - besides we can learn how to perform all sorts of tasks with a bit of "Internet coaching"!!! And it can't be impossible because others have accomplished the very same task! Next it's woodgraining, EH.

The temp gauge on my 1929 does not have a bulb sender. In the sender is a series of points that open and close with the temperature. Not sure how easy they would be to repair but they are easy to check. If you take the cover off you can watch the points open and close. Filling Station does sell a sender. The bulb type on the 1930-32 is a liquid filled bulb. The liquid expands as the temperature elevates. Repair? Like the Dog said. Filling Station sales one. Price is very reasonable.
Not till I have done and seen it all will I go peacefully.
