I will try,
S/N 1=Flint, F=June, K=Fleetline then the sequence #.

Style ? 40-1007,,, That 40 should be 48 as that is the year code. 1007=Fleetline.

Body, not sure.

Trim= interior color, Tan striped fabric

Paint= 376 Mayland black

Top, will be blank

ACC, will be blank

info

Thank you Russell...to clarify, I haven't purchased the car yet.

Tomorrow, I'm driving across two state lines to check this car out. Based on your assessment, it appears that the car actually is a '48, as advertised. So that deepens the mystery of how a '42 grille (and fenders) ended up on it. Also interesting, in one of the pics of the trunk, I noticed a maroon shade of color, so I thought that would be the factory color. I suppose it's just old overspray from the the awful red paint that's on the car now.
I tried to attach a pic, but I don't have a host server to place it on...you're right: ACC and TOP are blank, I was just mis-reading it. If I pick this car up, I guess I'll start by trying to hunt down a '48 grille assembly and some fenders...that's a shame, considering how clean the car is at this time. Not to mention how rare some of these parts are.

I would bet that the car was in a front end collision and the front sheet metal from a '42 was obtained from a junk yard and fitted. If that is the case I would check closely for front frame damage/repairs. If done right will not be a problem.

I agree with chipper, the front clip has been changed, probably because of an accident.

I've heard that it would fit...and that there wasn't much difference...between the years...

If the fenders are 11942 there will be an impression of the parking lamp behind the parking lamp body. Also fender cut-out differently where the front stone deflector meets the fender.
The 1948 had no long belt moulding on the side of the hood. The 1942-46 had the long moulding with a long cut-out vent hidded under the moulding.

Okay, so I drove 1,000 miles to Seattle yesterday and bought the car. Tags and redge indeed indicate '48.

The grille is what appears to be a cheezy aftermarket deal. The chrome is bright, it's rather flimsy, and where CHEVROLET is embossed along the top, the letters are only lightly impressed, and the 'R' in the middle is almost nonexistent.

I've been in the vintage VW scene for many years, and these type of clues are indicative of the cheap Taiwanese repops.

This kid's Craigslist exlamation that this "car is absolutely rust free" was the greatest falsehood of the century. Needless to say, a lifetime in Seattle has wrought it's share of underbody corrosion. If not for what is likely a generous factory application of underbody protectant, this car would be roached. But there's no complete and total rot through the body, it's primarily heavy surface rust, which can be corrected. Really, someday it's gonna have to be a body-off.

Ahhh, off to search for a '48 grille set!

I just checked....it's already pulled off.

Now I have to figure out whether to truck ship it, or drive back to Seattle (Kent) with a trailer and pick it up.

I would get a quote to have it shipped and compare that to your miles vs MPG of the round trip. Figure the number of nights you will require at a hotel/motel. Also figure how much you like to drive, is it fun or a b---h.

Best of luck on your decision.

Yes..Get a quote...Driving it back will be a chore...I wouldn't do it unless I had a diesel truck...Some good hills in Oregon and that final incline into California is no joke...But, you probably know that already...

Yeah, at least get a quote - and calculate something in for safety, convenience and peace of mind. Man, I hate a car on a trailer!!!

Years ago, I trailered a '39 Packard Super 8 Sedan from Virginia. I could write a book (that no one would read). That did it for me and trailers.

Good luck!
