what is the pressure required to work oil thru the approved replacement oil filter sold by vintage chevy parts people?
on another question, someone wanted to put a modern oil filter on the 27' knowing the 27 is high flow and low pressure, can it handle a newer filter designed for use on modern engines with higher oil pressure??
how would you measure that? use an adjustable pressure oil pump (if one exists) and keep increasing pressure until a good flow of oil comes out the other end?
thanks

Ron, I am a bit confused by your link to "Shopzilla". I think I best recommend to you to use the replacement oil filter that is available and mounts in the exact space as the original. The oil pressure is set for the vane pump and is not adjustable. A gear type pump is available, but provides no advantages over the original vane type. As with most of the vintage Chevrolet direct replacements or services are highly recommend.

I'm glad we got old "Shopzilla" cleared up. I'm sure most any filter will work on the 27 engine. The down side would be a space to mount the filter and then the "plumbing". A firm rule is that we need maximum oil "flow" to the 4-cylinder engines, "pressure" is not important to a point, that is, we must have some. The 1925 engine is one that has a pressure requirement to the center main.

I don't have any problems with oil pressure in my late 27 engine, at an idle its about 3 to 4 pounds, at about 45 miles an hour I have about 8 to 9 pounds and get oil all over the right side of the engine. I used straight 30 weight oil. I think that's too much pressure. When I changed the oil I added a pint of zinc additive that was thick like STP. The dip stick shows about a quart over the line. Could I have too much or and the additive increased the over all weight causing this pressure?

I recommend you use 10-30W detergent oil and leave out any additives to include the zinc.
