Does anyone know it there is a seal around the timing cover where the Harmonic Balancers goes? oil just pours right out when the engine is running.

Thank you for your time

There is a cork seal in there. If oil is pouring out either the return holes are plugged or the front main is very loose. Being loose causes more oil to pass through the bearing. more than the return holes can handle.

Thank you, so to fit this, I would have to drop the oil pan?

To replace just the seal, It is accessed after removing the timing gear cover. To adjust the front main bearing, you will need to remove the oil pan.

While you will find the seal has crumbled away replacing it will not solve the problem. The main thing the seal did was to keep out dust. The 1935 was the first to have the cork seal. Prior to that the oil slinger did the job. Most important will be to find why so much oil is entering the timing gear area.

I pulled my balancer/timing cover and it was FULL of baked sludge. If your engine has never been apart it could be as simple as that... hope so!

Thanks to all for your help, final had time to drop the oil pan and found that the return holes were plugged. Clean them up and no more oil leaks. Thanks again
