On my 1947 STYLEMASTER the hood ornament has red paint applied to the grooves on the rear (tail) of the casting. I was wondering if the groove on the outside door handles would have ever been painted black or red? The CHEVROLET letters on the top grille bar where black in 47 and red in 48 I think.I have a brochure for 1948 Chev cars and the red car pictured seems to have a red painted groove on the outside door handles. Also were all gas caps painted body colour?

The 1942-1948 gas caps were painted fender color. The door handles did not have red stripes....the 1941 was the last to have that feature. The red stripes in the ornament are OK.

47's had a body color headlight bezel with no pinstriping. It looks nice, but its a custom touch.
I believe door handles should have a black line in the middle. Red on the hood ornament as you mentioned. That's a small touch that really looks sharp. Black on the letters on the grille and sides.

Only 1942 had head lamp rim stripes.

My documentation shows headlight door striping for 1946. Also, door handle pin striping in red was for the '46 Wagon only.

That is correct. The head lamp rims in 1946 had the stripes same as in 1942. Also the door handles had a red strip and no stripe on conventional cars. My 1947-48 literature says no stripe on head light rims or door handles including wagons.
