My buddy has a 292 Chevy Engine, the block says "Hecho en Mexico". What years were the 292 made in Mexico. I'm also trying to find a website that can decode the different numbers on this block from Mexico.

I know that many of the Targetmaster 350 engines came from Mexico in the late 70's and early 80's.

Yes, it is a Targetmaster replacement engine....probably from the late '80's or '90's.

Can't give you a comprehensive answer. I had a '83 3/4 ton pickup with 292 and granny four speed. Engine, transmission, manifolds were all hecho en Mexico. Old Red was a great truck that eventually went to Mexico.

How about if one were to need parts for this 292 that is apparently a crate motor from Mexico? Are the replacement parts or internal parts the same as any other 292 from the other years?

I never had any problems getting engine parts for my '83 292 hecho in Mexico. Completely rebuilt it once. Several times had to resurface the manifolds as they continued to warp as they go older. Also had to replace the harmonic balancer (old one I use as a door stop) when the rubber didn't hold the pulley in place any longer. Was a great engine that took lotzabuse.

Chipper was your 292 factory engine with the truck, or you replaced the original motor in the truck with a 292?

The 292 was original to the truck. I was second owner.
