Hey guys, I've noticed that the 53'-54' Corvette has what appears to be a sheet metal cover over the distributor. Does anyone know why this was used? Also, do you know if they are available for purchase anywhere?

Interesting.....just read that it's referred to as an ignition shield. Due to the fiberglass of the firewall grounding was an issue with radio equipped cars. The shield was designed to protect the radio and ignition from interference. It was used up until the early 80's when at that time radio technology has got much better and interference wasn't as much of an issue. If anyone knows I would be interested to see if anyone makes or has one of these shields.
