Im working on a 40 Special Deluxe Coupe & have a few questions as follow.

The bell crank for the foot starter along with the linkage that goes from it to the starter switch lever - were these painted black or Cad Plated? Oil fill cap painted or Cad plated.

Should the Distributor have a Delco name plate on like the starter & generator. If yes what would the correct number be for it.

Thank You for your help!!!

The bell crank, which had the starter button rod built into it was a gray treated metal color with no gloss. The rod between it and the starter lever was the same. The little tear drop connector that the pull back spring hooks to was silver color, spring was black. The exposed part of the starter lever (fork) was silver.
The 1938 and 1938 proving ground pictures that were in the G&D years ago are an excellant reference and that is how my '39 was.The 1940 picture has the starter parts covered up by the battery....I will send you the engine pictures.

Chevgene,

Thank You for the pictures. They do show that the parts were not painted black except for the oil fill cap. Would cad plating on the bell crank & rod to starter pass the judges as correct? The distributor on the 1940 does not show a Delco tag on the front as the 1939 does, was it on the back or just not one on it?

Thank You

Regarding the Delco-Remy distributor plate, the following was posted by "calmcar" above:

I believe that the correct 1940 distributor No. is 1110052 and the number is on plate inside.

The 1939 had the plate on the out side-number was stamped into the distributor plate inside and 110052 was correct for 1940 and the only year to use that number.(plate points mount to)
Cad plating would be too bright...some kind of a dark gray oxide would be more correct.
