I bought a new windshield rubber weatherstrip at a swap meet last weekend and when I put it on my 39, I found it has an extra 1.5" on each side? Everything looks correct including center rubber but it is too big. I can cut it and revulcanize it but was wondering would you put the new joint at the top of the division bar or at the bottom? Would it make any difference?

I would suspect that it is for a 1940.If the "joint" is cut and glued evenly either location should be OK.

Either that or contact the vendor and exchange for the correct one.

Didn't buy from a vendor, it was marked as a bag of 39 coupe window rubber for $50. The rear quarters and back window rubber fits fine, but maybe they were the same as 40'.

Nothing is shared with a '40.

The '39 is one year only, and 1940 is one year only.

some early 39 chev bodies used the front window stamping from a 38 and the window was a little smaller on a 37/38 than a 39 i have heard about it a few times rare but not unusal, if you went to a regualar vendor for window rubber instead trying to get a deal you could have exchanged it for the correct item, buyer beware, and you got a deal for $50 remember!
