Will a 1954 Chev powerglide car diff/torque tube assembly bolt into a 47 Chev car? or is T/tube a different length? I want to retain the stock 47 axle housing and six stud axles.thanks

The 1941-1954 torque tubes are the same length. The 1951-1954 TT are a little larger in diameter. Will be necessary to pull the axle shafts out, unbolt the rear cover, Unbolt the front housing bolts and slide torque tube and carrier out of the front.....there are more details so get a shop manual.

Were you able to use the 42 axles or did you have to use the 54 axles?

You muust use the original axles and axle housing. The 1949-1954 housing is narrower abd the axles are shorter.

Like Gene said. Just replace the center section. If you have a transmission jack, it makes it real easy to change it out. I chained the torque tube to the tranny jack, and was able to adjust the angle and all, so the replacement slipped on the studs. And did not damage any threads.
