Hello everyone. After inspecting the general condition of all the castellated nuts/bolts and cotter pins that attach the lower control arms (lower wishbone)to the front crossmember brace, I've decided to replace all of them. These drilled bolts are 7/16" with fine threads (about 20 count per inch), 1 1/2 inch long and threaded only half way leaving an unthreaded portion where it goes through the front crossmember brace.
I can not find these where I live. Does anyone know where you can get these original type fasteners? Chevs of the 40s and The Filling Station do not have these. I don't want to have to cut to proper length 8 grade 8 bolts and drill holes and etc.. Also, I really don't want to use regular bolts with lock washers. I guess there's a reason they did not use those back in 1940.
If it is impossible to get these particular bolts, what do you guys recommend?
Thanks for your help!
Curt

If you have a Fastenal Store near you, try them. I just bought the 15 head bolts for my 31 from them. Grade 8 and it cost just a touch over 25.00.

Hello Jim, Found a Fastenal store and got what I needed (sort of). Had to go an extra 1/4 in long and bolt end was not drilled. I'll just use lock washers since I can't use the cotter pin method. Thanks, Curt

Just a nickel's worth of free advice based on general knowledge without knowing a thing about your wishbone. Castellated nuts with cotter pins are often used in situations where cinching the nut is unacceptable. A free working wishbone would seem to fall into that category, cinch the wishbone to the frame and it by definition won't be free working. I have never had much of a problem drilling bolts, it takes patience, but if I can do it, anyone can. I may be way off base here, please take it for what it's worth, but I would put in the extra effort.

Lock washers and Red Loctite should do it.
