I would like to replace both of my incorrect '39 business coupe battery cables.

What are the correct lengths, gauge, materials, coatings and colors?

Also, should there be any additional grounding straps, like from the starter, engine or transmission to the frame?

Thanks;

David

The ground cable was 9 1/2" long and was a flat braided non covered cable. Must be for 6 V system as the 12 V is only 1/2 the size.
Positive was 37 1/2" long and covered with a black cloth woven material. Any modern cable will be plastic covered. There again the size of the cable is important. should be of at least 00 gauge. I get mine from Farm&Fleet...Tractor Supply will also have them. If too small of a cable is used the starter will not get enough "juice". For me I would rather have a nice big fat plastic (black) covered cable than some original of questionable value.

I use this vendor for all original wiring and supplies. I believe if you check with them, the listed positive battery cable for 1939 is black cloth covered and the proper gauge. www.riwire.com

Another good source for battery cables is Fastenal. They sell the cable and ends and you can make your own custom cables.

Would the ends look original?

The ends are not the same as OE ends. They are close.

Try RJ&L Automotive Fasteners & Vinyage Wiring Supplies.
www.rjlautofasteners.com
00 battery cable is overkill the standard in the battery cable books is 1 gauge.. if you want alittle heaver 1/0 (0) is better.

RJl manufactures cotton covered battery cables with soldered battery terminals any length you need.
