1st: Happy new year to everybody!
2nd: My 1940 should have an additional handcrank to turn the engine by hand, but its missing. Does anybody have one and might help me with the dimensions and size? Want do order a self made handcrank at a blacksmith shop and without Details there will be no good result.
Sometimes it is helpful to crank the motor by hand, during valve or ignition alignment for example....

That's the main times I use mine. Maybe some day I'll get brave enough to actually try to start the car with it. I've been trying to fight off a case of Pneumonia for the last three weeks with mixed success. If someone else doesn't come up with some dimensions and pics in the next few days I'll try to tough it out long enough to venture out to the garage.

The 1939 and 1940 cranks are the same. The straight end is also used as a bumper jack handle. I would suspect the 1938 would be shorter. It is 33" long.

I have a 1938. The crank--not sure if it's correct for the car--is 29" long, total. Viewed with the handle on the left: the handle is 4", then there is a curved turn downward; this curve is 3" on the outside (top or right); then 4" straight down to the next curve; that 2nd curve (to the right) is again 3" on the outside (bottom); then 21.5" straight to the end.
The handle end is solid.
The other, working end has a recess 1/2" deep. At that recess, the pipe is 7/16" inner diameter and 11/16" outer diameter. There is a projection on either side of the recess; those are 3/8" before (left of) the recess. The projections are 1/4" diameter. It is 2 separate projections; they do not appear inside the recess.
The crank weighs 3.5 lbs.

The 1939-40 passenger car starting crank is 31 5/8" overall length with a plain end. The 1937-8 all and '39-'40 truck starting crank is 33 1/8" long with plain end. FYI 1933 (exc. truck) to 1936 (all) had a lug nut socket end. The business end has a 3/8" cross rod in the 3/4" double 90 deg. bent rod. The later years have a depression in the slightly larger diameter business end.

I have made reproduction starting cranks in the past. Don't know if I will do it again.
