I have a 31 Sport Coupe with the rear spare tire carrier. There are no bolts or studs onto which I can mount the spare wheel. The carrier has square holes like for carriage bolts, but there are no such bolts with the carrier. Should I use carriage bolts or are there supposed to be wheel studs pressed in? If carriage bolts, are they supposed to be welded into place? I ask because I have seen other rear tire carriers with one carriage bolt welded in, and another with wheel bolt/studs pressed into place.
I know I can go either route, but I wanted to know how it came from the factory. Thanks for your help.

The spare tire rack came with three special carriage type bolts. I used to have a bunch and still should if the Boss can find them.

The carriage bolts are 7/8 inch long from under the head, and are 7/16" UNF thread , same thread size as the wheel studs.
