38 Master Business Coupe, the running boards are off & there is a rubber gasket material that went between the running board and the side of the car. I took a quick look at the gasket at the body shop & it looked similar to the trunk lid seal. All I've been able to find at the venders looks like this: http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~dyndetail~Z5Z5Z50000014a~Z5Z5Z500351~P12.50~~~~S1SP0PTP0K12654888435a~Z5Z5Z5~Z5Z5Z50000014x

Is this the correct replacement? If so does the bulbus part go to the outside or the inside of the running board? Thanks.

I recently installed the Filing Station runningboard gasket on my '39 with the "bulb" up and was very satisfied with the result.
Best wishes,
Chuck

That is the correct gasket and it is installed by rivets with the bulb toward the center line of the running board laying in that groove that is just at the top of the lip of the running board.

For information only: I bought a pair of NOS 39 running boards several years ago from an old dealership with bulb seals installed, seal consisted of a piece of round sponge rubber covered with black vinyl with approx. one inch lip.(made similiar to wind lace) Seals were installed to running board with wire staples.

According to the parts book the '39 used a different seal. The 1938 and down used the wider 1/4" fender welt....that is also what I have in my '39 (not original).

There were remnants of that same style rubber gasket on my '38 and most of the rivets were still in place although only a couple had remnents of gasket attached. It looked the same as the stuff the Filling station sells but it could have been a solid sponge, not a hollow bulb. If you attach the gasket correctly the bulb will lay in the groove perfectly and pinch just a little when installed. I put a strip of body cloth, that stuff that looks like cloth strapping, on top of the running board support which raised them slightly when installed. Everything was tight but fit well.

My parts book (29-41) calls out 8.322 #350645 33-40 all except O, P, Q, R, KA, KB, KH, COE. No mention of any diameter. The only difference on '38 models is in HE and HD.
