I let my 27 Chevy Idle for about 20 minutes with the spark retarded and the radiator boiled over. I pulled the water pump and it seems to be in good shape, is this a common problem or could it be something else. Fan works, belt tight, no leaks inside the engine and no blockage, water flows through the system?

As soon as the engine starts, advance the spark to the advanced position. That was most likely why you boiled over.

Ray I have another question, I replaced my generator shut off with a 6 volt one for a model A, I set the 3rd brush to allow 3 amps at an idea and with a low battery it goes to 10 amps, do you see any problems with that until I get the standard one, I am also using a rebuilt Marvel carb that came with the car, do you see any problems doing this?

If you have the old cut-out, ship it to me and I will convert it to solid state. Otherwise, you are set to go. Down the line I would be looking for the correct carburator to replace the one you have.

I was going to convert it to a solid state but the diode I got was a positive ground,can you get a negative ground one,if so where. I have the instructions to convert the Model A's from a friend, put they use positive ground.

All you have to do is hock up the diode reverse of the ford wiring and it will work in other words the generator side will become the battery side for your use and the battery side will be the generator.

Hi
I did just as you suggested and at an idle its 2 to 3 amps, at a cruising speed its 10 plus and minus amps, with the lights on at cruising speed its about 5 amps. what type of a diode do you recommend and is there such a thing as a negative diode?

I left my 1915 Model T (ferd) ideling with the spark retarded once. It got so hot, the exhaust manifold was glowing. You could almost see thru it.
