In the next week or so, I'm going to post all of the first two years of the VCCA G&D... While reading those for the 3rd or 4th time, I was impressed by how the club not only honored the early, original cars, but they also keep everybody up to speed on the latest Chevrolet actions. This included new car models, race results and even instances where Chevrolet products were used in boats.

So to begin the new year - 2014 - and to try to instill that old-timey support of ALL THINGS CHEVROLET, here is a video of a new Chevrolet Corvette which just exceeded 200 MPH on a freeway in Texas.

You go girl!!! popcorn

bowdown It's impressive engineering from Chevrolet that is eligible for VCCA display NOW, and judging in only 25 years!!

Wow... 100mph in third gear! I think my '51 speedo dreams about the same accomplishment!

A good 1951 would do a little better than 55 MPH in 2nd gear completely wound out...and about 85 in 3rd.

This old 1952 Belaire would peg the speeodometer hand and turn 5000 on the tach in third gear with a 52 powerglide rear end, a Packard 3 speed tranny, a balanced 1954 261ci engine with 2" dual exhaust, ported and relieved McGurk dual intake Rochester Model "B" carbs and Mallory Ignition, It was clocked by Texas DPS radar in excess of 100MPH, the maximum that the radar would show in 1960. No power steering, stock drum brakes and suspension (HD Monroe spring shocks.) New Lee 710x15 whitewalls. "Yep... I could be considered to be a little wild and crazy back in the day." That is an NHRA sticker in the left lower corner of the windshield.

Some things never change -- "Guys LOVE fast cars!" Always have. Louis Chevrolet was a guy!! bananabang

But somewhere along the way, the VCCA began to ignore that feeling. Maybe we can embrace it again, ALONG with our other interests.... Sorry... I'll step OFF the soapbox now.

Bill, thanks for the great idea and sharing your thoughts. I also dig that Corvette. Maybe the styling will grow on me, but like you said it took some pretty incredible engineering to get things to that level. What I wouldn't give for a test drive...minus the salesman. :)

I applaud your effort and the VCCA's acceptance of newer cars. Its hopefully going to help attract the next generation of Chevy friends that can keep this club going strong in the years ahead.
