Does anyone know what the (A) stands for beside the paint code number on a 57 ?
Code number # 793A. Onyx Black is the color.

Don't know what the A represents. Some combination codes have an ending letter, others do not.

The A designates what was painted what color. I believe A was a solid color. B was the roof was a different color and C the roof and lower body were one color and a different color in between (on certain models)-(more common on 1956 models)
In 1957 there were three acrylic colors, Imperial Ivory, Inca Silver and Dusk Pearl. Black was regular lacquer.
In MID 1958 all colors were changed to acrylic and they had a A after the paint number if acrlic was used.
