The modern Chevrolet line is almost the same as the European Opel and Vuxall....They figure that those two GM makes will do better with chevrolet out of the picture.

I agree to the Opel/Vauxhall and some Chevrolets being very close, but what about the Camaro, and the Pick ups? Luckily they will continue the Corvette as a side line.

There is news stories down here that the Australian GMH will possibly cease production in 2016 as well. That will mean any GM product will be imported though at this stage our VF Commodore is being exported to the US as a Chev ?? but no doubt with a few modifications on the way. Tony

Adding to what Tony has mentioned That Chev being exported to the US is an Aus. Commodore SS with 6 litre motor and rear wheel drive. The Chev that won the 1st US Nascar race was a modified version of our Commodore. Chris

The only thing that was used on the race car was the Commodore name. The car its self contained no parts used on any Chevrolet car.

The VE Commodores exported to the US a couple of years ago had an engine change and had the pontiac emblem. The VF will land with the Chev emblem but I dont know about an engine change. Tony

Under the hood is the Corvette-sourced 6.2-litre V8, rear wheel drive, it will sell in the US for $45k as a Chevrolet SS. Just read some US motoring writers stuff they like it, Car and Drivers magazine said "better than a BMW M5 and the Chev Camaro SS, they couldnt believe how well it handled. Now after all that they just killed it!!!!

IN todays news paper it says Toyota and Ford are also discontinuing car production in Australia in the next couple of years.....reason - high labor cost. Chevrolet also sells a police car version of the Commodore (previous verson) It is called the Caprice and based on the previous Commodore platform. Available in both a V-6 and V-8.

Toyota have not made any announcements as yet. Ford and GM have stated high labour costs, high Aissie dollar, and small the market as their reasons, only took them 65 years to work out that last one.

Hi Chev Nut Glad to hear that, they got our 2 door version, sold here as the "Monaro" a few years back, it was dropped when the current series was released, they are poping up on GB ebay from time to time now. Ill try to find some info about this new one, GM/Holden have still got 3 years to go before they quit.

Read today that GM will replace our Holden Commodore as we know it currently in V6 or V8 rear wheel drive configuration when they shut doun here in 2016 with a "Buick" 4cyl front wheel drive built in China! Good luck with that!

There was a 4cyl 1.9litre rear drive Commodore years ago and it was a total flop (engine was too small) so I hope they make a big improvement on that. Though I doubt that I would even think about buying 1 just the same. Tony

Welcome to OZ the land of crappy cars and imports. Can't begin to describe how I feel about the parent company that made my Chev 4. Its not printable.
Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great" I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

My son came home with the January 2014 CAR & DRIVER magazine. In that magazine is a head to head comparison with the Chevrolet SS and Dodge Charger SRT8.. It says they GM USA may import 2--3000 of the auzzie built SS. Its actually a good looking car. Here's the best part in the head to head evaluations the chev SS totaled 216 points and the charger srt8 totaled 197 points in the evaluation of the cars. The SS was as tested.........45,770 and the SRT8 was $55,150. The SS was sporting a 376 cubes V8 of 415 hp and the SRT8 was 470 hp, that's a 55hp spread in acceleration tests. The SRT8 was only 3/10 of a second quicker over a quarter mile. This is just another example of GM not really building a car for enthusiasts in the USA and just funneling the low priced crapola at them. This is a good looking car that handles , accelerates, stops quickly and is a good car to drive . Its just a matter of time till gm pulls the camero production out of Canada and into a lower cost production area. The facility here has the highest quality production of any plant, but the costs are high. If they want to keep their jobs and the factory working I think they have to swallow their pride and take $$$$ per hour cuts or be un-employed. Sooner or later it will all play out. Personally the last 5 vehicles Chevrolet and pontiac and oldsmobile and bad experiences with some of them, doesn't want to make me walk thru the showroom doors anymore. They are building some UGLY vehicles. I think the guys who designed the Pontiac AZTEC SUV are still at work. mike

Guy, GM say it's a global problem. Chev pulling out of Europe, also closing Korea and no more Aussie production. Productivity and high wages are one of the reasons for the shutdown as well as the Governments refusal to prop them up. $70,000 to $80,000 for a production line worker is not bad and only 800 units a month production compared to Taiwan at 1600 units a month.

Holden sold 28000 units of the Commodore last year alone, that's 2333 on average per month. Since the anouncement though it has droped almost 10%.
