It is just an electrical ignition switch. Called coasting switch on tag.

if you wanted to save gas, people would shut off the engine and coast down hills. well when you did this you would also lock the steering wheel and if you needed to adjust where you were coasting to, aka not a ditch or tree, you would have to turn the key back on to turn the steering wheel.

So they put a small switch below the dash to the right of the steering column so you shut off the ignition without locking the steering whejel

So am I to assume to restart the vehicle while coasting one would turn the switch back to the "on" position and "pop the clutch"?

Even in flat southeast Michigan I think I'll splurge on that tablespoon of gas I'd save using the coasting feature going down a hill and leave the car running!

The major problem with the coaster switch is what happens when you have to stop at the bottom of the hill? Coasting increases speed which makes an unanticipated stop much more difficult much less an anticipated one.

That was one of my concerns as well which is why I'll leave the car running.
