What is the correct color for the window garnish moldings on a 36 standard ? Same as dash, wood grained or what. What is the dash color ? Thanks

My '36 Standard, Town Sedan has grey. It is wood grain and like a walnut with a grey marking under every now and then. (I am thinking mine came with the car because I am the third owner. It had not been restored.) The color can be found in the Master Parts Price List, 1929-1942 on pages 447 to 453. 1936 has half year models going from the wooden door called composite to the steel "safety door". If yours has a "Z" as the last letter on the Body Number line then it has steel door frames. The garnish mouldings from the wood door will not fit the steel ones. Presently I am looking for the driver's side part number 4070801 and I. D. number A89120. If I can be of any help let me know.

I have an early 1936 Standard and my dash was brown or a dark tan. The previous owner had already painted all garnish moulding black. My cars body color is also black, the original color.

The 1936 Engineering Features list the colors as "smooth gray color with a poplar grain effect, which merges into a smooth jet black at the mouldings inner edge (garnish mouldings).
The dash is not wood grained and described as "painted in a dark metallic gray, which harmonizes with the upholstery , hardware and window moulgings".
The upholstery was a herring bone pattern mohair in a gray/tan color.

The 1936 Standaed "safety door";
I have never seen Chevrolet refer to the all steel door introduced in mid 1936 as a "safety door". The word "safety" would have implied that the wood rienforced doors were unsafe in some way. GM (Fisher Body" continuned to use wood rienforced bodies and doors up through the 1937 model year in the larger Buick and Cadillac bodies and they were careful not to mention the construction was not safe in any manner. In fact it was never advertised that the 1936 Standard changed to an all steel door in mid 1936.
The June 1936 Service News describes the steel doors as "a great deal lighter than the composite (wood) doors and lend them selves to greater ease of adjustment".

The wood doors were very heavy, especially on 2 door models and did tend to sag. I would suspect that the change gave Fisher Body some experiance in the steel door before converting to all steel doors on most 1937 bodies. Probably were much less costly to make also.

Interesting about the dash, mine is a metallic brownish color and original. The window mouldings and upholstery are a dead match for the above though. Is it possible they changed the dash color at some point in the year or maybe between standard & master?

In looking back to original 1936's I would agree that the dash was a kind of a brown/gray.

My dash is also a darker brown with metalic very lightly to it. It is the org. color as I have seen no restoration inside at all.
