Questions on authentic interior colors in restoring 1941 convertible:
1. What are the correct color paints for wood graining the dash?
2. What is the correct color for the lower part of the dash?
3. What are the choices in colors and materials for the convertible/cabriolet seats and interior door and side panels? Do these influence the choice of convertible top?
4. What are authentic colors for the convertible top?
5. Was there any pile carpeting or just rubber?

Is there a good resource for such color and material information?

There are a lot of good sites that offer or provide the information you are seeking.

This may be a good start: http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/chevylist/tech/paintchip40s.htm

Good Luck

Tops were tan or black. Leather seats were tan, red, green or blue...Tops had trim to match the seats..Front mat is rubber, rear is carpet matching seat color..Top color and paint color do affect upholstery colors.

1- The dash board on a 1941 Special DeLuxe was a real thing if beauty.I would find a wood graining expert that can duplicate it...especailly on a high buck car such as a convertible.

2-The correct color for the lower dash, steeing wheel ,hand brake handle, steering column, etc is a rose/biege.Chevs of the '40's sells it.

3-PDX joe ansered well,Seats were leather and side panels were in matching imatitaion leather.

4------

5-My 1941 parts book lists front as rubber mat (in the four colors) with carpet inserts.

I know that you didn't ask my opinion but the color that was an exclusive convertible color in 1941, Cameo cream, would be my choice.Other than that several of the closed car colors were offered.

Once again I seem to be confused. (Not too rare these days!) It seems some 41-48 convertibles had wood-grained dashes, at least the top of the dash, whereas others were solid color. I suppose they were body color.

For instance, I see here the 41 had a wood-grained dash, which I thought to be the case. And, I'm quite certain good friend PDXjoe's 48 cabriolet has a wood-grained dash. But it seems like some 41-48 Chev convertibles don't have wood-grained dashes. Hmmmm......

Am I crossing-over (confusing) some Chev years or even some GM makes??

Interesting.

Bill.

Your loosing it.The 1941-48 convertibles had the same dash (with wood grain) as the Special DeLuxe/Fleetmaster cars....I had to stop and think for a moment also.

Only the Master DeLuxe/Stylemaster had a (brown) painted dash.

The 1949 and up convertibles had the special colored dash.

The 1942-48 Buick convertibles had special colored dashes-but the sedan dash was not woodgrained.

And then I was also thinking about a 46 Caddy convertible that was on ebay or someplace on the www just a week or so ago. It was a medium-to-dark blue car with a body color or maybe black dash. I thought when I saw it that it should have been wood-grained. No??

Fleetmaster dashes are woodgrain on the top and around the gauges and above the chrome trim on the glove box. However, my '48 convertible has the Fleetline dash which was woodgrain below the chrome trim, too when I bought it in '70. No one had changed anything on the entire car. Chev convertibles hadn't "come on" back then. That year I took it to the NW Meet in Centralia WA and it was too new to be in the regular show. They directed me to the end of the field where there were '53s, '54s and other new stuff...Cameo cream is a great color as Gene said. Chevs of the '40s Ron Wade has a great ruby maroon '41 which took best of show at Springfield in '01. And, when I was in HS, an older guy, maybe 21 had a ridge green one with a red interior. Lots of drool over that one, too.

The 1941 Fleetline had the lower part of the dash wood grained as well as the lower portion of the garnish mouldings. The Easter Model Special DeLuxes with the green or blue interiors also had the lower dash wood grained.

I can still remember when the local Chevrolet dealer had a new Cameo Cream 1941 convertible sitting on the show floor. With all the 1941 good looks and the "square" fog lights it sure was the last word in style. In retrospect the 1941 was leaps and bounds over the 1940 due to being lower and wider.

PDXjoe-Did we visit at the Springfield Meet?I don't recall when we last met.
