Hi, I see that there was no oil filter on my uncle's truck. I was wondering which filter is more correct for a 41 1/2 ton the AC L-1 or L-4 and which bracket I found an L-4 on e-bay and a filter one is C-11 and one is C-14, the VCCA tech section on filters says the L-11 and L-14 are the filters is this a typo maybe? Thanks also looking for any help putting the parts and hoses together
Thanks

You may want to go to the Tech Tips on this forum and look for a comprehensive article on oil filters.

I'm still not finding it Ray. The only Index link I'm finding is at the bottom of a specific forum and if I click it all it does is take me to the top of that specific forum. I'm still not finding a tech tip link anywhere. I did take the link you posted and it's the same article I linked to (on a different site) but without the pictures. I'm not trying to be difficult but I'm just not finding it.

Found it, thanks Steve. It's the same article as in the link I posted but without the pictures. It seems to be word for word. Kind of makes one wonder where ddautoparts got their info??

Thanks, Ray.

I tried to read all the information presented about the filter and the canisters. It boggled my mind. (I know, I know). About the time i would get it nailed down for the 41, the information seemed to change. COE, et al.

Anyways, somebody has done a heap of research on the subject and deserves a big atta-boy for it.

After all the reading I'm not sure about the following:

a. Did Chevrolet offer a filter for a car during the 1941 model run?

b. If so, what was the type and number?

c. What is the correct filter element?

e. Was the filter dealer installed?

f. Was it an AC?

g. Did it bolt to the intake manifold?

The reason for these questions is that if I ever did put one on the 41 project, I would want uncontrivertable evidence to back up my claim that it is correct.

Best,

Chevrolet offered an AC oil filter in 1941. It was sold as a part and the number was 1503611. It was listed in the 1941 parts book as for a 1937-1941.
It is not the same filter that was sold in 1937 though.
The same filter/part number is shown in the 1944 parts book. In that book it is noted that the filter does not include attaching parts. No element is shown.
AC made several filters that would FIT a 1941 and I will send you a picture of the one I think it is.

Great questions 41specialdeluxe I'll add one more was there a fram filter offered?

as I read the article I figured that the second design S-1 would be most likely to have been the one but a L-1 or L-4 could have also been used just depending on the dealer
Again this is for my 41 1/2 ton

Fram made a filter that fit a Chevrolet engine but it would be considered incorrect in VCCA judging.

The tech tip advises the mounting instructions for both types are the same. The link (to the mounting instructions) at the bottom of the tip shows the mounting location on page one.

That looks like the manifold mounted big 2 Qt. filter for a heavy duty truck.
Can you send me your email address?

I don't think those brackets are for a manifold they look like the firewall brackets I went ahead and bought it so when I get it I can post a better picture of the lid/filter
THANKS
