I'm on the fence about replacing the shaft bushing at the universal ball end of the shaft, as there is some play and there is some wear. The problem is, it's an oddball size. So is the seal. The shaft is about 1-3/16" diameter. Does anyone have a shaft to measure the exact sizein the area of the bushing? I'm hoping to avoid removing the shaft just for a measurement. Does anyone have a source for the correct bushing and seal? The existing bushing measures 1.73" on the outside and is a snug fit to the tube.

I should have a bushing. Will need to look to be sure. Will do so if you think you want to replace the bushing.

According to the Chevrolet parts book, the bushing for your 1930 truck is 1 3/16" I.D. and it is 1 1/2" long. By the way, welcome to Chevy Chatter!

Thank you for the welcome. This is my first attempt at rebuilding a vehicle. I am more comfortable covered in wood shavings. Speaking of parts books, mine was printed in 1946 and lists everything previous but does not give any description or dimensions. You must have one more specific to the year.

I didn't find a bushing matching the dimensions given by Skipper. Also didn't find the specs as given by him in any of the parts books I looked in. Which one has the dimensions? BTW there are two bushings in the 1.5 ton rear torque tube to support the propeller shaft. A front and center. The rear is supported by a bearing.

I only went up to 1929-42 ('45 edition). Wouldn't have thought that '53 would have more detailed information than earlier books.

I suspected there might be another bushing in the center but could find no mention of it anywhere. Only a lonely grease fitting. With the forward bushing removed, I can feel the slop in the center bushing.
