OK, just bought this car and was looking up the car number plate (of course mine is missing from the right hand seat)so here is what I have.
Title shows 1926 Chevy Touring vin# GV14585, an old handwritten registration shows 6U14585, engine casting 348709 out of a 27?, stamped 242 4 438. I could not match these numbers up with anything on the internet.
I would appreciate any help.

The vin# should be 6V14585 as should the handwritten registration. 6 is the Oakland assembly plant and V is the series designation for the 1926 Superior Chevrolets. Engine casting number 348709 is a 1927 casting. The stamped number is a sequential number assigned by the engine plant.

Danielnewtoy; your ID # is probably 6V14585.
6= Oakland Plant
V= 1926 car
14585= 13585 car built at that plant in 1926. (1st car was 1001)
348709= 1927 engine block.
Where did you find the numbers 242 4 438 on the engine? Not sure what they mean. Hope I was of some help.
