I can't get the temperature sensor out of the head on my 1940. I got the nut out but the plunger or what ever it is called won't come out of the larger pipe. I understand that it just pulls up. Must be stuck . Look like it is going to break if I keep wiggeling on it. Any ideas?

I'd try to soak the area with some penetrating spray and let it sit. Then try and see if it will loosen up. Might take a few times soaking it but should come loose with some patience.

It is probably held in by a combination of hard water and corrosion products. Tapping with a small punch around the edge might help. Wiggling the small tubing will likely only result in braking it. Instead try to push on the top of the bulb or grab carefully with needle nose pliers. Penetrating fluid or dilute acid might also help.

If you do break the capillary tube trying to remove the sensor, there is a fellow back east that can repair the temperature gauge and he will also install a brand new capillary tube and sensor as well.

If you have any Lime-away(you can buy it at any grocery store)spray a little bit around it and let it work for a hour or so.It softens up the build up around the bulb. The bulb is really thin, don't get to rough with it..it will break.

I will place my bet on the Lime-away.
