I had read that the serial number for the 32 engine is located on a flat spot above the fuel pump. On my 32 engine, this is true. I also found that there is a second stamping of the serial number (same number) under the push rod cover, on the block, at the bottom rear. I have a 31 engine (that was in my 32 when I bought it) and the serial number was ground off on the flat spot above the fuel pump but I found it in the same place as the 32, under the push rod cover. Was this normally done?

Yes for those years the engine serial number was stamped in two places. Some of the earlier engines also had the serial number two places.

The engine in my 1933 Standard has double stamped numbers like that. I'll look at some other blocks I have...Joe

Kind of Funny this came up...

My 1929 Blcok has the Serial Number located in both these places as well. One on the Pad next to the Fuel Pump, the other on the Flat Surface where the Push Rod Cover Gasket Mounts.

The double stamping of blocks continued up into the '50's.

Looks like Canada followed this practice also. My 1934M Canadian block has double stamps....Joe
