I finally don't have to stand on the brakes to get the brake light on. I started a conversion to a mechanical brake switch after the Middle West Meet but got stalled because of the heat and figuring out how to drill the holes in the floor. The steering column was in the way to drill from the engine side and the brake pedal was in the way when drilling from the passenger compartment side. As well as all that I have vertigo issues (BPPV) when I try to stand on my head inside the engine compartment. Saturday was the time when everything finally came together and I got it installed. Now I just touch the brake pedal and the brake light comes on. Yee Haww!!! This is the type of switch I installed.

I think I had a problem standing on my head trying to see under the dash...smiles..Maybe mine was my birth certficate. Good job on the switch, it would have looked better chromed.. Agrin

Great solution. I think Gene uses this switch and recommends it use for more confident brake light action. beermugs yay

Wondering, though, why the old master cylinder one didn't act right. Was the switch worn out? Was something stopped up. I still use one on the 41 and it works great. Not as fast owing to pressure having to be created but fast enough for folks down here in the south. We do get some northerners passing through (we can only hope) who ride our bumpers like we could give a crap if they're in a hurry.) Agrin

a little more work for a brake bleed?? I noticed some models of these at 40's chevs have an adjustable arm.. any problems getting it in the perfect spot ??

The pressure switches get to where it requires more and more brake pressure to activate the switch. I've put three pressure switches on since I got the car back on the road. When in Wisconsin this spring at the Middle West Meet I was told by the driver following me on one of the tours that my brake lights never came on. I checked and had to almost lock them up to get the switch to activate. I've had enough of that, every pressure switch I've put on eventually did the same thing, so I converted to the mechanical switch. I suspect that's why they eventually did away with the pressure switch.

Tiny, Did you just rerun the brake light wires to the new switch leaving the old pressure switch in place? Beamer

Yesser, that's exactly what I did. I just made a short jumper to connect the wires and left the old switch in place.
