I have a 59 Chevy apache fleetside with an original 235 in it and I am looking into painting the engine here soon. I was wondering what the correct color was to paint it and all the parts attaching to it and how to go about doing it.

Thanks for all your help!

For starters the correct color is the dark blue/gray that was used on car engines from 1929-1953 (1953 stick engines only).mAvailale from www.fillingstation.com.
The engine was assembled and then painted so all exposed bolts, edges of gaskets, etc. were painted....including the water pump, oil an,Oil filler cap, flywheel housing and covers, top generator adjusing bracket.
The fan, road draft tube, and diasributor was black.

I notice Gene didn't mention '59, also...Rebuilds usually came in light blue...if we don't hear back from Gene, I would give the FS a call...They should have an answer for ya...Kevin

There is a section of the Chevy Chat that is frequently overlooked. Scroll down to Tech Talk, open the 4th thread and look up the year.

1962 and previous 1/2 ,3/4, 1 and 1 1/2 ton 235 truck engines were the old gray color....same for the base V-8 truck engines in this tonnage range.
