I get it. It's a car culture. That's how they were building their cars back in the seventies and eighties. It's a craft and a skill that is now being passed down to a younger generation. Their events and shows are very family oriented. Check out some of the customized bikes that the youth start working on before they graduate to cars. Sometimes I worry that there are far too few people in our end of the hobby doing the same thing... making the hobby relevant to the youth today. Hot Rodders have it easy that way. It's an art, or a form of expression. Us restorers are limited by having to follow the rules. It's like handing an artist a blank canvass and a paint by numbers canvass, and asking them to express themselves. Most would pick the blank one, and do what they want. Us people that paint by numbers are a bit of a rare breed!

My thoughts also... I don't feel like there's enough raw material out there for this kind of thing to go on but lots of folks think i'm boring or nuts for staying stock. If it makes for some quality family time why not, after all a car is only metal, wood, rubber, and such no matter how old and rare it is.

I have had many great conversations with the Bombs and Lowriders and I will say they realy know their craft and most all of them realy admire a correct restoration...You can just amagine what they would do with my correct restoration..Fleetline is one of the original Bombs!

We don't have the latitude from the authorities to alter cars the way you can. It's known locally as "The Nanny State " Someone in authority always there to make sure no one has too much fun.. I must admit the 40's stuff looks cool with a lower stance..but still ........ I supose they can always be reclaimed if the fashion swings. The Filling station and Chevs of the 40's must do a roaring trade.

Its called destroying a cars soul, and anyone can do it. Lets hope in a few years when the fad dies out, enough stock cars remain.
But somehow I doubt it, Between the Hot Rods, The Rat Rods, and now the Low Riders and the Bombs, the humble Standard spec car does not have a chance.
Cheers
Ray
Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great" I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

You and others may consider it a Nanny State or government telling you how to live your lives. In this case my interpretation is: When does a vehicle cease to be representative of the year of original manufacture? Is a '40 Chevy with a V-8 engine still a '40 Chevy? Or a '54 with altered suspension so it no longer appears the same?
A rose is a rose but when you take off some petals and replace them with some from a chrysanthemum is it still a rose?
How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!

Quiet frankly I don't how they drive them so low...I have a friend that sells titanium bolts they attach to the back end to create white sparks when they "bottom out"...Good Grief...

I don't think there is anything boring in restoring old cars. It takes a lot of talent and knowledge to work on our cars. Think of the time it takes to preserve old parts, getting them working, and putting them back on the car. I know I get excited at making it work. I think we all do. And then there is this form where we share our ideas and knowledge to help others experience taking a group of parts to a working machine. I like what others do to there cars. Yes it takes talent and time, but it's not what I want with my car. Einar

I have had many great conversations..... You gotta love the Townsman resto!!! What do do think Bill42??? I like most all Townsman Wagons. Too many of the Bombs cars are kinda "over the top" for me. Some folks might call them 'works of art,' but many are just 'too much' for me.
