What body style is the model "GA?" What Model is "HA?" Is a "Town Sedan" a 4 door sedan or a two-door sedan? Probably the 4 door, since wouldn't a "coach" be a 2 door sedan?

GA - '37 Master Deluxe HA - '38 Master Deluxe JA - '39 Master Deluxe These models have independent front suspension. GB,HB,JB have solid axle, leaf spring front suspension. They are called Master and in '39 Master 85. These designations aren't body styles..Each group has coupes, 2 doors, and 4 doors. And in '37 and '38, convertibles, called cabriolet. town sedans and coaches are two doors...

The GA etc, are model numbers as noted. The body styles are for example for 1937.All GA Master DeLuxe models are 371000 series. From there is broken down into individual body styles.A two door Master DeLuxe with a trunk (Town Sedan) is a 371011,the Master of the same body style is a 371211.a 4 door with trunk is a 371019 in the MD and a 1219 in the Master.
The 1219 number is used for identification in the body section of the parts book. The GA used in the mechanical section where the GA Master DeLuxe would be different from a GC Master.

Thanks for all the good info. I was almost convinced that a 1937 GA Town Sedan would be a 4-door sedan. Sounds like it's a master deluxe 2 door sedan. Are 4 door sedans just called 4 door sedans, or are they called something else?

Chevrolet called the 2 doors with out trunks a Coach.
Two door with a trunk a Town Sedan.
4 door with out a trunk a Sedan.
4door with a trunk a Sport Sedan.
This followed tru thru 1948.

Appreciate the info. I am learning some valuable stuff here.
Maybe somebody can also tell me where on the '37 Chevy GA frame the serial number is usually stamped. I've looked all over with no luck. ' Course there is some surface rust that may be hiding the numbers. On my 36 chevy coupe there is a number under the seat on a tag, but I have never had the body off the frame on the '36 so i don't know where Chevrolet put the numbers on the frame.

oh, one other question: What's the difference between a Chevy "coupe" and a "sport coupe," if we're talking 1936 or 1937?

I am new to the Vintage Chevy and this web site I just got a 1938 chevy 2 dr sedan fresh from VA. I live in CA.
Just got the car from VA with a VA title as a 1938 chevrolet 2D SDN VIN 9HAD619660 (CHP said this VIN is not for a 1938 chevy). If it isn't what does that mean. Is the car stolen is it no good did I get ripped off? I am trying to title and register the car in CA. CA DMV could not find VIN on car body CHP could not find the VIN. The car has the original frame and body the drive train is not original. Any ideas where the VIN could be and is the VIN on the VA title the right sequence of numbers and letters for that year? HELP!!

For more information on 37 Chevy passenger cars, go to < http://home.znet.com/c1937/ >, and click on "carz". . There's a pictorial of a few of the body styles available for 37 Chevy. Good Luck.
