I've been reading all the posts on the '28 1-ton Chevy truck, because I too have one. I need to find minimum of two but hopefully three (one as a spare) wheel/rims for the front of my truck. I've looked in the usual (ebay, craigslist) with no luck and to be honest I'd rather deal with someone from this site as all of us are trying to do the same thing...improve our vehicles and help each other in the process. So, does anyone have two (or three) wheel/rims 20x5 inch from the USA that they would sell me that are in good shape, or know of a contact that would have them? Next will be tires $$$$. Thank you, Jerry

Wow, nobody knows anybody? Looks like I'm a big wheel going in little circles! Seriously, anybody?
Wow, thanks for reading anyway, Jerry

Rims for that truck and others that use the same rim are as scarce as clucker teeth. Way too many sat for years with flat tires in the mud. Rims chewed up by rust worms.

There's a bloke in Queensland Australia who reproduces split rims for all Chevs, including the truck ones. If you are interested I can track down his details. Chris

That may be my only choice in the matter Chris. If it wouldn't be too much trouble I sure would appreciate it. Maybe in the meanwhile someone might step forward with one or two in their hands. I didn't know they were so hard to find (other than in the clutches of the rust worms).
I sincerely appreciate the responses from you both.
P.S. they won't be right hand drive will they? Ha, ha.

To add a little more information, the rims have two raised ridges on the inside of the rim. One serves as a stop to keep the rim centered on the wheel. Car wheels don't have the ridges. I understand that Coker Tire makes some rims (or has them made). Suspect they are plenty pricy but might be worth a call. I was told several years ago there also was someone in Wisconsin that was making rims. Maybe they still are?

Looks like this guy on ebay has at least one rim: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-lug-nut-b...ries&hash=item19dac994d1&vxp=mtrI believe the 1927 and 1928 1 ton truck rims are interchangeable, so you can look for both. You can also ask Lou McMillan, in Berkeley CA, if he has any extras. I know he purchased a number of these trucks. You can find his contact info in the VCCA member database. Cheers, Dean

Hello heavyhands, I may have one rim that came with my 29 coupe. It is 20" and has the two ridges in it as described previously. There are gaps in the ridges where the rim bolts go through. I always thought it was Chrysler but maybe not. I do not know if there is a 1 ton truck in our region to compare with. It is a little pitted but not rusted through. Would trade for a fairly nice 20" car rim if you paid shipping both ways to Vancouver WA.

The 20" truck rims don't have any notches in the ribs where the rim bolts pass through(I've owned & driven my truck for over 30 years). It's probably off another make of car, possibly 1925 Dodge,as they used 20" wheels for that year only.

E bay just had some newly listed wire wheels in 19". Don't know what you need but you might want to check them again.

That's the one. Also fits up to '31 trucks with solid disc wheels. Not sure about the pierced disc wheels.

Hello, thought I could help but the latch on mine does not look anything like that. Yours looks like the other ones for the 28 I am tinkering with. My unknown rim also has notches where the rim bolts go through. Good luck on your quest. There is one more fellow in our region who may have a couple. He has 2 barns full of various rims. I will see him next Sunday and will try to remember to ask.

For those that might be interested, Coker Tires will not have "truck specific tires" until 12/31/13. Soooooo, off we go again to look for another resource for tires (tyres for our southern hemisphere folks), 600-20". Anyone that might know of a stateside source, please do not hesitate to let me know. Unfortunately, I do not have a spare tire and therefore my truck is sitting on a jack until I find two new tires for the back of the truck...and of course there will be no joy riding until then either! Help!
tks, Jerry

Hi Jerry, FYI, I found some usable used truck tires (6.00 x 20) in the back of a wrecking yard. You'll also find lots of 7.00 x 20 used tires around. These tires are used on more modern trucks. They will also fit, but will have a larger outside diameter, thus lifting the truck up a little and giving you a little more speed. The tires that I found were mounted on later rims, but the wheels only cost $20 each, so I recycled the rims. ;-) If you go down the path of having new rims made, there are a list of rim makers towards the bottom of this web site: http://www.calimerswheelshop.com/Cheers, Dean

Hey Jerry,
Keep looking my friend, they will be out there somewhere
Cheers

Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great" I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/
