How can I tell what this engine is? CYL. HEAD 3835913 GM 17-- BLOCK 0650115 F55P3 (behind dip stick) EXH MANIFOLD--GM1 3835587 with heat riser. TRANNY 391183 OR 591183 OR 581183???

3835913 head = 1954-1955 235 F55 = block = F made at Flint. 55 the year, P 2 ton truck. Trans 591193 is a 1941-1948 passenger car.

THANK YOU GENE!!! This engine was supposedly taken out of a 1948 Sedan Delivery. The only number I could find with the limited amount of books that I have was the number off of the exhaust manifold (3835587) that says 1950-54 235/261. This block was painted blue. Do you think it is a 261 replacement

From the numbers (block and head) it would not be a 261.

Don't know why... But, blue was a common color painted on rebuilds...

The 2 ton truck engine he has would be a heavy duty 235. It would have been painted greeen. The HD engine has better exhaust valves, valve rotators and chrome rings.
