Welcome to Chevy Chatter!!

Sounds like you have an accelerator pump issue, and also your carburetor might need a good cleaning and a rebuild.

Your engine timing could be off...Try advancing the timing...Loosen the distributor and rotate in the direction of the advance mechinisum...Drive it around the block and see if it runs any better...

That or maybe the advance mechinisum is not working at all...Stand on the passenger side and hit the gas lever and see if the distributor moves at all...

You should see the distributor move...Your point gap also effect's the timing...Check it with a "dwell meter" or match book cover...what ever's handy.... laugh

You could have sticking intake valves due to bad/old gas. Pour some Marvel Mystery Oil through the carb. air horn as per instructions on the MMo container. Le set over night after drowning out the engine with MMO.....don't for get to turn the key off.

True...You did give rather "scant" details on whether the car has sat for awhile or this is a sudden occurance...Please tell us more...Could be any of the above : lack of fuel/timing/or sticky valves...
