There is a car nearly identical to my 1936 Chevy Phaeton coming up for auction later this week in Burbank, CA. The only difference is that this one has a rear mounted spare tire, while mine had a side mount and a luggage rack. They don't seem to be advertising any details on any of these cars - just a bunch from one collection. These are not the Holden bodied Phaetons, but were special export models. Only a handful were made.http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/feature-lots.cfm?SaleCode=BB13&ID=r134&Order=runorder&feature=&collection=&grouping=Carr%20Barn%20Find%20Collection&category=

They finally posted the results from last Thursday. The car sold for $33,000. Probably would have gone higher if they had put any information at all on the description. All they had were pictures.

The auction company personel and the owner did not do their jobs in getting the maximum information posted on the vehicle. Along with documentation of how many were made. If it was that rare, should have waited for barret jackson or one of the other big auctions to come up. Only so many with money to spend on toys. People are not spending $$$$$$$ on older vehicles, they want : 55--57 chevrolets , 63--67 plastic fantastics, muscle cars 61---71 my 2 canadian cents............. mike

My personal thought on Barrett Jackson is that they totally ruined the buyers market for auction cars with the multimillionairs buying everything at rediculously high prices. Now everybody with a 55-57 chevy and 67-69 camaro thinks they are sitting on a large lump of gold!Just my 2 cents!

I have a "working model" '36 car and truck. When I go to town they tell me I could get whatever I wanted to for something like that....I guess I have a lump of gold and don't know it..Well, there is a real value.

Wife tells me there is a barrett jackson auction on from nevada, last nite. Well if you want to buy a car cheap, definately last nites auction had a lot of cars that were well done drivers that sold at more than fair prices. There was one 66 red t bird that was struggling at $16 G that they kept trying to pump up the price and interest with their " you could not restore this car for double the bid ". Guess they told the seller, YA, this is Barrett Jackson we don't have no stinkin reserves, we can get you the big bucks , sign here numbnuts. Finaly switched channels or fell asleep. mike..........

I don't watch 'em. IMHO, for too many years Auctions have made it difficult for a lot of folks like me to be able to afford a nice ol' car. Those guys don't like ol' cars, they like money!

Looked to me to have a bunch of vehicles that sold for a fraction of restoration cost. They were not barn finds but nice presentable and some very well restored vehicles. What would you expect to pay for a really nice restored '42 Chevy Convert? A much more rare '42 Ford sold for just over $ 20K.
How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!

I watched nearly all of the Barrett-Jackson; the last 2 hours of the Saturday night had most of the high end cars. The last car was a 65 Pontiac GTO triple black convert and sold way under what it should have. The high seller was a special Mustang promoted by Parnelli Jones and sold for charity. At the end of the auction, there were 5 cash awards for the "show & shine" car show. Worked out well for the first time. JIM
