The fitting for the temp guage on my '29 head for my '30 engine (in a '31 car)seems to want to leak and I am reluctant to over tighten it. Was thinking of using teflon tape to see if that would remedy it. Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?

I would not use teflon tape as it only works well on good threads on both parts. If the threads are irregular Permatex No 2 is far better.
