Hello, I am replacing the original speaker in my Chevy Radio #985792. My question is how do I go from a 3 wire to a 2 wire setup? Photo 2 shows the 3 wires on the old speaker and the 2 wire terminals on the new speaker. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Harold _________________________

The wiring depends on whether you are using one or two permanent magnet speakers. A PM speaker only needs two wires and only one wire if set up to use the common ground.

From the plastic wires it is evident things have been changed and I don't know if they kept with the correct colors. However, the speaker on the left is an electromagnet speaker and requires 3 wires, the ground, the positive, and the speaker wire. The speaker on the right is a PM speaker and requires only the ground and the speaker wire and connects to the two spades on the speaker. If the correct wire code was used, ground is black, hot is red and the blue is speaker. Keep the speaker core. They can be reconed and made as new, however aftermarket speakers are normally not worth the effort. Keep the old core. It can be reconed and be as new. Aftermarket speakers are not normally worth reconing.

Ray, Thanks. I can go forward with the info you sent. The red was connected to the coil of the old speaker so based on what you said I will use only the black & blue wires. Thanks again, Harold
