why go to this much effort and then choose this colour scheme.

Not only that but he doesn't know what he has. It's a cluster out of a Master not a Master Deluxe.

The only thing that 12v would make a difference on would be 'maybe' the gas gauge other than the bulbs. I ran my old 55.1 panel for 100K at 12v without ever putting a resistor on the gas gauge & never had a problem with it.
