Contemplating installing 8.45X15 bias ply tires on 15x5 rims. Does anyone know what the section width of the tire mounted would be? May have a clearance issue with the rear spring and tire wall. Also are there any issues in installing this wide tire on 5" wide rims? Thanks in advance for comments

I think the clearance issue would be in the rear wheel wells. With the tires moving up and down, there is also some sideways movement where the rear tires will rub against the body of the car and perhaps the fenders. If you have skirts on the rear, they may also cause problems.

I would be worried about side stress on the wheel flange. Back in ancient times I had a '69 Chevy Station Wagon that had special wheels because of the weight and wider tires. Put a regular wheel on the car as I didn't realize the difference. Had the outer rim split from the rest of the wheel due to constant flexing. Almost got killed changing that tire at night on a narrow road.

An 8.45 tire should have at least an 6" rim.
