Hello all,

My father owns an 1928 chevrolet national AB, but the big end bearing of one of the conrods has sort of molten due to a crack in an oil pipe.

Can you buy the cap slippers(big-end bearing shells)ready to install or are they always casted for this type of chevrolet?
Picture of the big end bearing:

I have another question, it's about the middle cranckshaft bearing.
What's the minimum and maximum axial allowance for the cranckshaft? We now have an allowance of 5mm/ 0,197inch I saw a number on this bearing, are they ready to install on the market?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings from the Netherlands.

Hello
We are two 1928 Chevrolet friends who have cast new Babbitt in 1928 con rod, and the resultant looks good for a DIY job. The fixture can easy be mount in a lathe chuck for finishing cut

End play on the thrust bearing is from .004 to .006 inch. End ply opp to .011 does not cause noise (Chevrolet repair manual

Hi Bluezone, just found this old post and as I'm thinking of pouring my own Babbitt I'm wondering if you still have the pictures of the fixture handy or a link to where I might find them?

Any info would me much appreciated.

Thanks, I reckon I could make that fixture.

Am I right in thinking that after cleaning off the excess babbitt on the rod, the cap and spacers are then put on and poured through the oil pickup hole?

Or is it done another way using that hole as a vent.
