I have several questions concerning 1950 Chevrolet engines.
1st. did all Chevrolet engines in 1950 used in cars, have the casting number 3835497, or was it different for Power Glide?
2nd.I am using the standard engine for this question. The engine suffixes of HAA (Flint), and HAM (Tonowanda). Is there a cut off point (region) as to where these engines were installed? Steve

The 1950 passenger car ( 216 stick) and 216 truck engines had a 3835497 casting number. The 235 truck 235 engines had 3692713. The 1950 Power Glide 235 engine was 3692703.
All 1950 engine numbers began with H in 1950 The second letter was an A for all car engines If the engine was made in Flint the next letter would be an A (stick engine) unless it had a heavy duty clutch. Then would be a C. Tonawanda engine had a M and with a heavy duty clutch had a P.(this for stick shift engines) The third letter for a PG engine would be D if built in Flint and a Q if built in Tonawanda.
HAM would be a 1950 car engine with a standard clutch built in Tonawanda. Engine numbers ranged from 1001 through 1320152

Thanks for your reply. Still have a question. I understand the Flint/Tonawanda suffixes, however were the Tonawanda engines East coast engines, and the Flint West coast engines? Or did an engine go to where ever it was requested? Could a Baltimore built car have a factory Flint engine, or an Oakland built car have a factory Tonawanda engine?

The Tonawanda engines were used at plants in the north east part of te country. They also produced far fewer engines than Flint.
