Just wondering how pricey the front windscreen(shield)for these cars are,Mine is starting to get a lot more fog on the right screen, and on my way to church yesterday a small rock hits the driver screen and actually cracks it alittle,I only have Liability insurance on it so guess I'll have to check to see it it can be mended for now...I see that safelite commercial on tv all the time...any suggestions...thanks.[Linked Image from i1168.photobucket.com]

Here's a couple examples.......

Don't forget, you will need to replace the rubber windshield channel too. Same vendors or Steele Rubber.

Check with your local auto glass companies. They can cut flat safety glass if you give them the old glass as a pattern.....but you still need new rubber.

Good luck.

Yeah, Ken's is correct...New rubber...Take's two people...Push with your feet from the inside-out...Your buddy catch's the glass as it comes out...

I got a nice "bullseye" on the windshield of my 48 a couple of weeks ago. I called Safetylite and they said they wouldn't fix it - citing liability issues.

I think my best bet is to have a local glass company cut it,rather than ordering from chev'sof the forties,I can't Imagine what kind of shape it would be in coming across America...anyone know who has the best rubber for these cars,Steele rubber comes to mind...

I can't be sure, but I think Chevs of the 40s and Filling Station both use Steele Rubber products.

Sooooo, best to check them along with Steele for the best pricing.

I replaced the windshield in my '42, and it turned in to a nightmare. the windshield divider post cane out with the gasket.
It was completely rusted out. I very carefully measured it up and made a new divider and welded it in. Not fun!!
