In my '36 coupe, I'd like to remove the seat cushion. I tried a couple of usual methods but nothing worked. My next step is to use a flashlight and mirror to see if I can figure out what's holding it.
But, first I thought that I'd ask in case there's an easy trick that I'm missing.

Not sure but if it is the bottom cushion, try just lifting up on the front of the cushion and pulling it forward. That is how my 33 and 37 work.

I have an original 36 coupe seat removed and to me it doesn't look like the bottom cushion will come out by itself.

My '35 Standard Coupe cushion lifts up at the front and slides forward as previously described.

Yes, it may make a difference if it is a master or standard. My 33 has a 36 standard coupe seat in it and it lifts up in the front and can be removed by its self leaving the frame and backrest in the car.

Interesting. Below are pictures of the seat I have for a 36 coupe and it looks like it could have the original upholstery. Uncle Ed, does your seat look like this?

that looks exactly like the seat in my 35 standard 3 w coupe........except on the pictured one above for some reason the upholstery is extended down over the seat bottom frame. Its not supposed to be like that, they are supposed to be seperate, the cushion from the seat frame. The seat frame front is upholstered seperately. The cushion lifts up and from there two screws per side are removed from the mechanism in the picture, in order to get the frame to slide forward, so you can take the seat back and frame assembly out. Thats the way it works in my 35 std 3w coupe and this sure looks the same. mike lynch

The seats on a 35 Standard and a 35 Master are totally different. The 35 Standard Seat lifts up so you can get under the Seat for the Battery. Since the Battery on a Master is under the Passenger Floor Board there is no need to lift the Seat. You cannot "Lift" the Seat Cushion on a 35 Master. You must unbolt the Sliding Mech. to get it out. The picture about is of a 35 Master and does not look anything like a 35 Standard.

Well, now I'm not sure what to think. The above pictured seat came out of a 36 std coupe and I have pictures of 2 other 36 std coupes that have the upholstery wrapped around the bottom frame as well, making it impossible to remove just the bottom cushion.
Mr. Bill, what did you find out on your 36 coupe seat?

Ha ha.... and I thought that this was going to be SO SIMPLE!!! To clarify, my '36 is a Coupe Pickup. a-- That's suppose to make it 99.9% identical to a COUPE. b-- Since it's a 1936, then it's a STANDARD model. The front seat has been re-covered, but please ignore that. To answer your question --- "No. I could not pull it up and out." Here's a couple of photos that I just ran outside and took. ---Bill

Lift up on the the lock handle and slide the seat forward on the metal mechanisms , to take it all out in one piece. Then flip it over to see how the botttom cushion is attached to the frame. mike

Thanks for everyone's suggestions- but NONE of them worked! We finally figured it out. PICTURE 1: Here's what the front driver's-side bracket looks like. You can just barely see the NUT holding the bolt which goes down through the floorboard. PICTURE 2: Here's what the front driver's-side bracket looks like with the NUT removed. PICTURE 3: And a close-up of the mounting bracket and bolt. But note that there is an "outer" bracket still in place which is slotted. PICTURE 4: And -- the Floor Bracket with the outer bracket REMOVED. This was the key. The hold-down (outer) bracket prevents the front of the seat from being lifted up and off. What you see here, remains bolted to the floorboard. PICTURE 5: And a picture of the full bracket rail on the underside of the seat. So the front seat is now finally out. And repairs are being made to the rusty floorboards, etc. Thanks to Dick Olson for letting me experiment on his car -- before I tried it on mine! --Bill Barker

As popeye would say, "blow me down ". Thats 90% same as my 35 std coupe seat, except for that bolted down bracket. At least i will know that if i ever need parts for a 34-35 std bench seat i could use 36 std coupe as a substitute. mike
