The dash that came with my car is a silver colored, kind of wrinkled looking affair. Someone tried to repaint it or do something to it and it's a mess. What is this finish called and how do I replicate it?

Foolish me. It's the instrument panel, not the dash that has this finish. Looks like it was originally this way and then someone tried to "fix" an area on it and burned it or something.
I'll try to get a picture a little later.

Yep, ya gotta be more specific with your questions. bigl

The gauge insert on the instrument panel had a wrinkle finish from the factory.

Thanks, JYD. Is there any place I can get this finish replicated?

I have done the job several times before and you can actually do it yourself once you get the correct paint.

So where can I get the correct paint and find out the proper proceedure? Kind of sounds like an interesting project. Thanks again, jyd.

You can purchase a spray can of black wrinkle paint. After the black wrinkle paint is applied and dry you can spray it with the top coat that matches the original. Krylon has a color that is close or, if you still have the remains of the original color on your insert, you can have the color matched at your local automotive paint store.

Hammertone is a bit different than wrinkle paint. The way I see it: wrinkle paint produces ridges and hammertone depressions in the paint surface.

Chipper is correct, Hammertone is different that wrinkle paint. Do not use Hammertone.
