Hi Bill: Yes, the car is done; and so is my employment; Ralph is not restoring any more cars. I am headed back to Joliet Illinois. If you e-mail me direct at: proracer690@gmail.com, I will send you photos. I wanted to thank the members who supplied parts and technical advice. This car has been seen by several members of the local "all original car club"; they think it should win best of show as well as the class. JIM

Simply beautiful!

I had a dark green one just like yours (trunk and all) in 1958. It was all original and in almost perfect condition. Yours makes me wonder why I don't still have it.

I traded a run-of-the-mill '48 Dodge for the Chevy. I then traded the Chevy for a fresh '36 Ford club cabriolet in '59. I had to sell the cabriolet when I was drafted in '60. I have always regreted letting the Chevy go. Ah, sweet memories!

You have a rare, beautiful Chevy. I have often wondered how many were produced with the trunk.

That is looking great Jim. Glad to have had a little part in it. One question: How do you get those pedal pads to stay on? Mine keep falling off.

Best Regards, Pat

Hi Pat: I guess we got lucky. The guy who started the project ordered parts from suppliers 2 years prior to my involvement. I believe the pads came from I & I. The pads were not pliable despite being shrink wrapped. I sprayed them with NAPA spray silicone & kept working them on the metal pedals until the silicone dried. The serrations on the pedals were in good shape which may have helped retain the pads. Thank you for the compliments....JIM

Hi Gaither: Thank you for the compliments. The 34 belongs to my employer, Ralph Hanser. Another employee started this project and made a mess of it. After 2 years, Ralph fired the guy and I would up with a huge basket case. I had to strip everything and start over with a bare frame. Upholstery is LeBaronBonney kit, local painter, AIH Chrome in Dubuque Iowa, most everything else done by myself in house......JIM

Jim, I wish I had your abilities. You surely have done a number on the Chevy. You might well consider going into business for yourself.

Good luck

I am for hire; when this car was done, Ralph decided not to do any more restorations, meaning, I am now a free agent. JIM

If you are a FREE agent I have a 38 that needs a lot of attention.
I can supply some food and lodgings.

Hi Tony: Thank you for the compliment. The term "free agent" in the US means a person is not under employment contract and therefore free to seek employment anywhere. I have been to Australia twice; I took a 5 day R&R (rest & relaxation) during my tour of military duty in Viet Nam, the second was when a group of drag racers came down under to race with the "Wild Bunch". Both trips were great. JIM

I thought that was what you meant but thought I would try anyway, mind you if you do come south for a bit more R&R the short term accomodation is still available.

James if you want to come a far bit less for the winter the Texas is the place you want to be. Have three hots and a cot available. Plenty of old Chevy restoration too.

I sent you a PM. The Boss says we have an extra bedroom. Gulf coast Texas is sure better than snow. That is unless you are a skier. There is some skiing around here but on liquid water.

Is that because it is easier to bury your bones? Sure doesn't help to restore and drive old Chevys.

Nope......it is because the snow is more beautiful than the dry Texas desert......and besides, I hate the ocean. Not only that, on a nice, cold snowy afternoon I would rather be sitting in front of a fire in the fireplace, drinking beer with a nice blue-eyed blonde....or redhead....instead of working on those knuckle busting old cars. yay

Hey Jim: Great job on the '34!!!
